No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

Mary Spellman,  dean of students at Claremont McKenna College in California,  resigned under pressure after  sending a gracious note to a troubled minority student. A student demonstration argued that  Spellman’s comforting message was in effect a way of saying that minorities didn’t belong at the school. Charlotte Allen has the story at her blog, Stupid Girl .

  1. I graduated from Pomona College, next door to CMC. CMC has been a tremendous school for students interested in business and economics. Henry Kravis, George Roberts, and all the many hundreds of former students who have found work on Wall Street, and in private equity, finance, and business support this school very generously. Many students do not take financial aid, and could easily choose other schools if they decide CMC isn’t providing a golden ticket.

It’s very possible that this school could collapse entirely should this nonsense continue.
