New York, NY; September 9, 2024—Minding the Campus (MTC) is excited to launch its new Research Internship Program, designed to cultivate the next generation of skilled writers and researchers focused on critical issues in higher education. This intensive four-week internship allows aspiring scholars to engage deeply with pressing topics while contributing to MTC’s mission of challenging prevailing narratives and promoting rigorous scholarship.
The program’s first cohort will start on October 1, 2024. We are accepting applications from now through September 16, 2024, and will reopen for future cohorts as needed. Each internship cycle will host two interns, who will receive a $1,000 stipend upon successfully writing and publishing five essays. This program offers hands-on experience in writing and research aimed at developing expertise and insight into higher education issues. Interns will work remotely.
Program Highlights:
- Duration: 4 weeks

Intern Responsibilities:
- Essay Writing: Interns will produce five well-researched and well-written essays—600-800 words each—on topics related to higher education. Potential topics include Title IX, student loans, school closures, the decline of Western civilization, foreign funds, college affordability, artificial intelligence, the mental health crisis among students, and the role of higher education in workforce development.
- Research: Interns will gain hands-on experience in building subject matter expertise, conducting interviews, and engaging with experts, all under the guidance of MTC’s managing editor.
- Editing and Feedback: Essays will be reviewed by MTC’s managing editor. If changes are needed, interns will be expected to revise their work.
- Social Media Promotion: Interns will promote their work on social media platforms, including Twitter (X), aligning their activity with MTC’s values and enhancing their professional profile.
Program Objectives: The Minding the Campus Research Internship Program is designed to ensure a timely flow of well-written and well-informed essays on higher education issues to create a space for open and honest discussion about higher education. By bringing together diverse viewpoints, we hope to spark meaningful conversations that drive change in how we think about universities. High-performing interns will also have the opportunity to continue in the program or be considered for future full-time roles at the National Association of Scholars.
Application Process: Candidates must be sophomore-level or above with a strong interest in higher education issues and research. The writing sample should adhere to the program’s guidelines and demonstrate the applicant’s analytical skills.
