Our American Revolution Series Is Now on Substack

Our American Revolution series now has its own home on Substack.

What began as a special project of the National Association of Scholars—hosted on Minding the Campus—has grown into a full-fledged historical series worthy of its own platform. The new Substack will serve as a dedicated archive, collecting all past essays and providing a permanent space for new ones as we approach America’s 250th anniversary.

Over the past year, our essays have traced the unfolding drama in chronological order, from the Boston Tea Party to the tense summer of 1775, when the Continental Congress balanced diplomacy and defiance—sending the Olive Branch Petition to King George III even as it justified armed resistance through the Declaration of the Causes and Necessity of Taking Up Arms. Soon after, King George made his own declaration, proclaiming the colonies to be in open rebellion and transforming a war of words into a war for independence.

To some, this project may seem to fall outside our focus on higher education, but it, in fact, strikes at the core of our mission. The failures of today’s universities—seen in the decline of civic literacy, the neglect of America’s founding principles, and the spread of historical revisionism in projects like the 1619 Project—have left a void that demands serious attention.

This series fills that void. By revisiting the Revolution through scholarship and clear prose, we aim to recover the truths the academy has obscured and reconnect readers—professors, students, and citizens alike—with the ideas that built, and can still sustain, our civilization.

We invite you to visit and subscribe to the new Substack as the nation inches closer to its 250th anniversary.
